MIAMI VETERANS DAY HONORS ALL WHO SERVED
ARMISTICE DAY 1918 THROUGH VETERANS DAY 2018 100 YEARS OF SERVICE, AMERICANISM, AND PATRIOTISM! (Miami, FL) This year marks the hundredth anniversary of Veterans Day, a holiday with origins that began with the Armistice, the end of World War I, the Great War. The WW1 Armistice went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month on November 11, 1918. In 1954, to honor the veterans of World War II and the Korean War, Armistice Day was re-named as Veterans Day. The salute is themed “100 Years of Service, Americanism, and Patriotism."
On Saturday, November 10, 2018 from 8:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m., to commemorate this long and rich history, The Coconut Grove American Legion Post 182, Commissioner Ken Russell, District 2, and Honorary Host Committee Chair, U S Army Retired Colonel Emilio T. Gonzalez, Miami City Manager proudly host, The Miami Veterans Day Centennial Salute in Historic Coconut Grove. The salute is a day-long series of patriotic events that Honor all who served...men and women of The United States Armed Forces consisting of the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard. The schedule of events includes: 8:30 a.m.-The Commander David White Veterans Memorial Ceremony at the Charlotte Jane Memorial Park Cemetery, 3650 Charles Avenue, Miami, FL 33133. The official Red, White and Blue Parade will kick off at 11:00 a.m. from the intersection of Matilda and Historic Grand Avenue. It will travel for 1 mile with several great public viewing areas along the parade route to Douglas Road, featuring the U.S. Armed Forces Color Guard, Miami Military Museum, and the Royal Bahamian Police Force Marching Band. Immediately following the parade from 1:00 p.m.-6:00 p.m. there will be a Coconut Grove Veterans Benefits Fair at the Miami Fire College, 3425 Jefferson St. The fair will include information about the following: Homeless, Enrollment, Housing, VA Loans, Disability, Health Care/Mental Health, Employment, Funeral Honors and Burials, Women Veterans Benefits, and more! To enhance the Fair, for military and community families, there will be a Roots Salute Celebration, with Bone Fide Bahamian Food, Live Entertainment, youth and family patriotic activities, and DJ Chico the Leo Grown Folks Radio.
